In 1949, Heinrich Burghart founded the company under his name in Hamburg-Blankenese. Together with medical devices, Burghart developed and produced laboratory equipment for the tobacco industry. In 1968, the company moved to new production facilities in Wedel, with a second production facility commissioned in 1974 in the same place.
After Heinrich Burghart retired, in 1969 his sons Heiner and Kurt Burghart took over the company and divided it into its current main business units medical systems and tobacco systems. The medical systems division has been recording constant growth since 1990, representative of the flexible capability of the company to successfully face up to new tasks.
